REGGAE artist Ryan Oneil said he has started 2016 on a high after the release of his latest single entitled I’m Just Saying.
Released in late January, he said the track has made its way onto mainstream radio.
“Produced by Footsteps Records, the song is rapidly climbing up the dancehall ladder. It is playing on several local and international stations and it is gaining traction in the New York tri-state area,” he said.
“My management has been putting in a lot of work and I am very happy with the direction my career is headed,” he said.
The singer, whose given name is Ryan Shaw, spent his earlier years in Kencot, St Andrew, before migrating to New York in his teens.
O’neil said he believes many talented emerging artists are often snubbed, and he believes this is what is hampering the growth of the music internationally.
“If you look at other genres, new artists are what fuel growth of sales by generating fresh energy and interest in the music. But in dancehall and reggae, many industry players simply opt for the hype name, which often causes the space to be saturated with the same artists and the music ends up sounding regurgitated and dull, which explains why our industry sells poorly compared to other genres internationally,” O’neil stated.
However, the artists said he is happy and grateful for the opportunity to showcase his talent, and promises to deliver great music that will break sales and rating barriers.
Currently Ryan O’neil is gearing up for the video shoot for the single,as well as appearances at gigs in the US, Europe, St Martin, St Kitts and Nevis this month and in June.
