LAUNCHED with much fanfare last year, the second staging of SweatFest, slated for June 3-5 in Montego Bay, St James, has been cancelled.

The announcement came via the website of American rhythm and blues singer Keith Sweat, founder of the festival.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, SweatFest 2016 will be postponed and moved to a later date and destination. Keith Sweat prides himself on bringing the best entertaining experience to his fans and wants to ensure each and every one of you has a time you will never forget,” the post read.

An estimated 3,000 fans attended the three-day festival in Montego Bay, last year.

“Sweat Fest has been a dream of mine for some time and I’m excited to share this incredible celebration of music, love and laughter, with R&B fans in a beautiful location like Jamaica. We’re going to make this an unforgettable weekend,” Sweat was quoted as saying.“It’ll be a weekend filled with love and laughter, with nightly events,” he continued.

In addition to Sweat, American R&B acts Joe, Ginuwine, Tank, Teddy Riley, SWV, Silk, 112 and Dru Hill gave great sets at the Aqueduct in Montego Bay. Dancehall artists Wayne Wonder and Tanto Metro and Devonte were also rostered.

In January, organizers of another major festival — Jamaica Jazz & Blues held in Montego Bay — cancelled the event. No reason was given for the cancellation.
