According to Loop Jamaica – Jamaica’s Leader of the Opposition Portia Simpson Miller has a net worth valued at US$20 million, almost twice that of US President Barack Obama.News of the report surfaced at a time when it has been reported in the local press that Simpson Miller would on Tuesday table her integrity report in Parliament.

Meanwhile, the website that published Simpson Miller’s estimated wealth, didn’t outline how it came by the figure.

Obama whose second term as president is drawing to a close, was estimated by Get Net Worth to have a net worth of US$11 million.

The site did outline his source of income as coming from authoring two best sellers, from his law practice, time spent time as a community organizer, lecturing on constitutional law and his service as a senator.

Simpson Miller, has enjoyed a career as a parliamentarian for 40 years and has served two terms as prime minister.

She succeeded PJ Patterson as prime minister in March 2006 and was narrowly defeated by the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) Bruce Golding in the general election of 2007.

She defeated the JLP’s Andrew Holness in the general election of December 2011 and again became prime minister in January 2012.

However, Holness turned the tables on Simpson Miller, defeating her in February’s general election, relegating her to the Opposition’s bench.

During her career, she has also headed the ministries of Tourism, Sports, Labor and Social Security and Local Government.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Holness, had assets of J$152 million, with a net worth estimated at around US$2 million, making Simpson Miller worth 10 times more than her much younger political rival, based on Get Net Worth figure.

Portia Simpson Miller announced on Sunday that she will stand for re-election as president of the People’s National Party in September.
