EDUCATION THE FOCUS FOR THIS YEAR’S “ST. MARY MI COME FROM” AUGUST 5!

Education will be the focus of this year’s St Mary Mi Come From show which takes place August 5 at Gray’s Inn Sports Complex in Annotto Bay, St Mary.

Claudette Kemp is manager of deejay Capleton who conceptualised the event in 2000. She told the Jamaica Observer that a back-to-school event will replace the treat which usually takes place one day before the show.

“We want to have a major back-to-school drive on August 24, not just a treat, for the kids. That’s the main thrust for us this year,” she said.

Several schools in St Mary and St Andrew including Capleton’s alma mater Islington High School, have benefited from St Mary Mi Come From which returns after a three-year break.

According to Kemp, initially she was concerned about lack of corporate support but said there has been marked improvement in that area in the last month.Kemp added that the line-up for the show is almost complete. Chronixx, Busy Signal, Jah Cure, Romain Virgo, Chezidek, Yvad, Don Andre, Ninjaman and Cocoa Tea are all confirmed.

Capleton (real name Clifton Bailey) is from Islington, a district in St Mary. He launched St Mary Mi Come From 16 years ago to assist financially challenged institutions in his home parish.

The inaugural show was held at Clements Park. It was last held at the Gray’s Inn Sports Complex.
