THE enduring career of singer Junior Tucker will be toasted Sunday at the Wine Shop, with the ‘The Spirit of Jazz Hotta In July’ show.

The former child star, now a minister of religion, will also celebrate his 50th birthday.

Sharing the stage with Tucker will be singers Suzanne Couch and Judy Emanuel, musicians Jon Williams, Ian Hird and Desi Jones.

“This jazz show is just another one of my ways to bring entertainment and the ministry [of Christ] to the people of this nation that is my family and blood. It will be jazz music with a mixture of gospel music as most of the artists are Christians,” Tucker told the Jamaica Observer.

A nephew of another child star, tenor Jimmy Tucker, and brother of singer Sharon Tucker, the Trench Town-born artist started his career during the 1970’s doing covers of songs by American acts like The Jackson 5.

Tucker’s career thrived in the 1990’s when he was with Main Street Records. His song, Don’t Test, peaked at 54 on the UK pop chart in 1989. He converted to Christianity nearly 20 years ago.

His gospel albums include Brand New, Ready For The Rapture, and Victory — Worship From The Island II.
