NEW YORK-BASED ROCK STEADY OUTFIT THE FRIGHTNRS’ ” NOTHING MORE TO SAY” DEBUTS AT NO.1 ON BILLBOARD CHART!

THREE-MEMBER reggae outfit The Frightnrs debuts at number one on Billboard’s Reggae album chart with Nothing More to Say. The 11-track album, released on September 2 via Daptone Records, comprises rocksteady material.

Rocksteady originated in Jamaica around 1966 and is the successor of ska and a precursor to reggae. “Rocksteady was the first style of Jamaican music that Dan and me fell in love with,” Frightnrs keyboardist Chuck Patel told Jamaica Observer, “and the idea of making a classic album for a classic label like Daptone was a dream come true.”

Dan refers to lead singer Dan Klein, who died in June 2016. Brothers Chuck and Preet Patel, and Rich Terrane are the remaining members of the six-year-old group which was formed in Queens, New York.

Nothing More to Say is a collaborative effort among the American band, producer/arranger Victor Axelrod, and Daptone Records.

With the exception of two covers both from the Daptone catalogue: Bob & Gene’s Gotta Find a Way and Saun and Starr’s Gonna Make Time, the set boasts original compositions.

Last year, the band released an EP titled Frightnrs on Major Lazer Diplo’s Mad Decent label.

Elsewhere on the Billboard Reggae Album Chart, last week’s number one Falling into Place by California reggae band Rebelution falls to number two.

Set in Stone by Stick Figure remains at number three, while Stephen Marley’s Revelation Part II: The Fruit of Life stays put at number four.

Strictly Roots, the Grammy-winning album from Morgan Heritage, has rebounded into the top 10 and holds at number five. Moving up two spots is Ziggy Marley’s self-titled album, while former number one Wandering Soul by Hawaiian reggae artist HIRIE falls to number seven. VP Records’

Reggae Gold 2016, Joss Stone’s Water for Your Soul, and the various artists compilation Reggae

Jammin, complete the top 10.
