THE “COME CELEBRATE JESUS” CONCERT IS AIMED TO HEAL MONTEGO BAY!

ORGANIZERS of Come Celebrate Jesus are hoping the annual gospel extravaganza will help quell the crime wave sweeping St James.

The event, now in its fifth year, is scheduled for the Montego Bay Convention Center in the parish. Show time is 6:30 pm.

“It’s a fitting time for an event like this. Every person should come as this is something Montego Bay really needs, especially with what is going on in St James. People need to know Christ… there are a lot of shootings and murders; this is a good way of reaching the people,” John Brooks, event conceptualizer, told the Jamaica Observer.

“The family is under attack. The enemy is going after our young people and God can make a difference, so families and young people should come. Lives will be changed.”

Headline acts are American gospel singer Alvin Slaughter, local act Kevin Downswell and Florida-based gospel artist Papa San. The Leharia Singers, a capella outfit Humble, Keisha Peart, and Ramone Watson are also rostered to perform.

More than 200 murders have been reported in St James since the start of the year. As a result, members of the Jamaica Defence Force were recently deployed to assist in the reduction of crime in the tourist capital.

“The police does not have the answer, the ministers of Government don’t have the answer, but God has the answer. I do hope the powers that be see the relevance of an event like this,” said Brooks.

“In second Chronicles 7 verse 14, Jesus didn’t send us to the government of a country or to the police. It says: ‘If my people, who are called by HIS name should humble themselves, pray, and turn from our wicked ways, then God will hear from Heaven. He will forgive us of our sins and he will heal the land.’ If at any time the land needs healing, that time is now,” he continued.

The conceptualiser said, for next year’s staging, he’s hoping to make it a weekend affair and bring in people from all over the world.
