AN album of unreleased songs from Gregory Isaacs and a Valentine’s Day theme show are on the cards in 2017 for the late singer’s estate.

His widow, June Isaacs, told the Jamaica Observer that the album will be distributed by Tads International Record, the independent label her husband had a long relationship with.

In February, a live show dubbed ‘Red Rose For Gregory’ is scheduled for Kingston. American Rhythm & Blues group Atlantic Starr will be the featured act alongside harmony quartet LUST.

June Isaacs said the album and show are just two of the projects to help keep ‘The Cool Ruler’s legacy vibrant. Gregory Isaacs died in October 2010. “His repertoire consists of lovers’ rock songs and many of the persons who support Gregory are females. So we chose Valentine’s to connect everything,” she said.

Isaacs was awarded the Order of Distinction (Officer class) by the Jamaican Government on Monday for his contribution to Jamaican music. June Isaacs was at King’s House to accept the insignia from Governor General Sir Patrick Allen.

Born in Denham Town, West Kingston, Gregory Isaacs began recording in the late 1960’s. His career flourished during the late 1970’s and 1980’s, thanks to easy-listening songs like Love Is Overdue, Soon Forward, Tune In, Night Nurse, and Private Secretary.

Isaacs was 60 when he died from cancer in London. Since his death, Tads International Record and VP Records have released compilation albums containing many of his hit songs.
