ROOTS ARTIST TURBULENCE TO HEADLINE MALAWI’S “SAND MUSIC FESTIVAL!”

The African state of Malawi is fast becoming a major market for Jamaican reggae artists. The latest act to perform in that country is Turbulence.

The artist, who is known for tracks such as Want a Natty, Name and Number, and Notorious, is the headliner of this year’s staging of the Sand Music Festival being held from Tuesday to Saturday at the Livingstonia Beach Hotel in Salima.

Reports out of Malawi is that Turbulence will share duties alongside Tanzania’s Diamond Platinumz, who specializes in a genre of hip hop from his country known as Bongo Flava.

Turbulence joins an ever-growing list of Jamaican acts who have performed in Malawi in recent months. These include Luciano, Busy Signal, Fantan Mojah, and Morgan Heritage.

According to Jack Macbrams, Sand Music Festival’s marketing and media executive, organizers had sleepless nights to decide on an international reggae artist for the festival’s roster, given that Malawians love reggae music.

“Yes, Jamaican reggae star Turbulence has been added to the Sand Festival roaster. This is in recognition of the fact that Malawi is a reggae-loving country, hence the decision to rope in Turbulance,” Macbrams is quoted saying.

Initially, the organizers announced that Sizzla Kalonji, another Jamaican, would have headlined the show and lead the reggae category, but he is currently on a tour in United States of America and his availability would not have been guaranteed.

The 2016 Sand Music Festival marks the sixth staging of the event.
