SOUTH FLORIDA-BASED SASHA DIAS IS RIDING THE WAVE ON “BORROWED TIME!”

Sasha Dias had never heard of Olivia Newton John’s Borrowed Time before producer Lindel Thompson suggested she cover the song last year.

She was, however, familiar with the Australian singer’s turn in another hit.

“I loved her from the movie Grease. That was my favorite movie when I was little,” Dias told the

Jamaica Observer. “I loved the song when I first heard it,”

 Her version of Borrowed Time was released in late 2016. Produced by Thompson, it has Willie Lindo on guitar, Kirk Bennett on drums, keyboardist Robbie Lyn and bassist Danny ‘Axeman’ Thompson.

Dias said she was guided by Thompson and Lindo who made some changes to the original, a hit for Newton John in 1978. “I just went with the flow, whatever changes they made.”

Borrowed Time is the lead single from the 26-year-old Dias’ second album which is expected out this year. It is produced by Thompson who also directed her on her 2014 debut set, Break Free.

Born in South Florida, Dias’ grandfather is Winston Dias, a Jamaican singer who is well-known on that region’s reggae scene. He had a hit song in 1964 with the Prince Buster-produced Cercy Tea as a member of The Movers.

Several of Dias’ previous recordings such as The Love That a Woman Should Give To A Man and Power Of Love, were also covers. Her upcoming album features more originals which she believes reflects her maturity.

“I think I’ve grown a lot, just listening to the old one and the new stuff. I feel my voice is a lot stronger,” she said.
