SINGER George Nooks is reeling from a prolific 2016 on the New York reggae charts. His most recent album, the gospel-inspired Ride Out Your Storm and single of the same name, both did well on the year-end charts.
The album Ride Out Your Storm is number two for 2016. The album, which topped the chart for multiple weeks, also did well on the Billboard Reggae album and Gospel album charts.
Released by Tads Records, Ride out Your Storm contains 15 tracks. It is Nooks’ first album in four years. It contains interpretations of George Harrison’s My Sweet Lord, Jim Reeves’ Precious Memories, Kenny Rogers’ Love Lifted Me, and Shirley Caesar’s I Remember Mama.
Among the producers for the album are Nooks, Richie Stephens, and Bobby Digital.
“I’m feeling really good just knowing that my album was on the Billboard reggae and gospel charts. I’m happy to know that it is still doing well at present. I feel proud of its achievement,” Nooks told the Jamaica Observer.
Nooks, whose career began in the 1970’s as deejay Prince Mohammed, has had a good run in music circles. Back then, he was known for hits including Forty Leg. He was also featured on the disco remix of JC Lodge’s European hit Someone Loves You Honey.
In the 1990s Nooks made a return to the music scene winning numerous Tamika Reggae Awards. He scored a Billboard R&B chart single with Real Man, which reached number 55.
In 2001 his Total Records imprint was responsible for the success of the song God is Standing By, a cover of the Al Green original. The song spent over 10 weeks at the top of local and overseas reggae charts. He later had hits with Lean on Me, Tribal War, Hero, and No Power on Earth among others.

The title track from Ride Out Your Storm, which he produced, is the number one song for 2016 on the New York Reggae singles’ chart. It spent 25 weeks on the chart with six of those at number one.
Nooks is also listed at number two on the chart’s Top ten producers of the year tally, and number four on the top ten artists of 2016. He is number three among the top ten male singers.
“As singers and artists, this is what you work and hope for, your song being a success and can touch lives. That’s like the icing on the cake,” said Nooks.
Nooks has charted more than 30 titles on the New York reggae charts since the 1990’s.
