Singjay Ruffian is preparing to release her single Jah Never Fail Me Yet.
Co-produced by Donovan Germain and herself, the singjay said the track is inspirational and speaks of a trying time in her life.
“It aims to inspire and encourage not only myself, but others. It’s about rising above the negativity and speaks a lot about the ordeal that I endured last year,” she told Splash.
Ruffian (given name Sharon Peterkin) was reported missing to the Portmore police in St Catherine on Saturday, September 3, 2016. However, a few weeks later, her partner Donovan Joseph revealed she was being held at Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Yesterday Ruffian said she returned to the island last month after serving little over five months at the detention center.
She said she was detained at a friend’s house minutes after leaving the airport in New York.
“I was suppose to go to an event on Labor Day, so my friend send someone to get me at the airport. I do not know the persons she had sent, but they ran a red light and was pulled over by the cops. When the police searched the vehicle they found about 40 pounds of ganja,” she said.
The singjay said that she was in the wrong place at the wrong time and was charged for the drugs.
“I plead guilty and served five-and-a-half months,” she said.
Now that she is back in Jamaica, Ruffian said she is putting the experience behind her and moving ahead. “I am working on several projects, but right now I am putting a lot of emphasis on the single Jah Never Fail Me Yet as I really expect it to go places. It is not officially released as yet, but the feedback has been great from those who listen,” she said.
Ruffian emerged on the reggae/dancehall scene in the 1990’s. She has released songs including the Steelie & Cleevie-produced Stick To Yuh Man, as well as the 2009 social commentary Save the Juvenile.
She subsequently released a 16-track debut album entitled Save the Juvenile, which was a collaborative effort with reggae journeyman Max Romeo.
