RAS-I STICKING TO HIS ROOTS!

 Ras-I —

When Immanuel Kerr got into the music business, in his late teens, he did so as producer Ras-I and released songs by up-and coming artists for his Ras-I Music label. But he did not want to just direct ‘traffic’ in the studio.

Five years ago he began recording songs for himself and other producers. Bad Boy Bully and Grow Wha Yuh Eat are two of his songs, both released in late 2016.

Another is Dread Inna Babylon, which came out in 2015. “Wi always want to sing; wi jus’ tek time to develop,” said the 26-year-old.

While calling the shots for Ras-I Music he was a marketing major at the University of Technology, Jamaica.

He also did a voice training course at Avant Music Academy. The songs Ras-I recorded for his label are similar in feel to Dread Inna Babylon, produced by New World Sounds out of Florida, and the Majah Music Group produced Bad Boy Bully.

“The sound is roots-reggae, original. It shows di artist is well-grounded,” he said. Ras-I is the son of Lorna Wainwright, who worked for many years with the Marley owned Tuff Gong Group of Companies.

His father is Osmond Kerr, a former footballer who turned out for Harbor View in the Major League. After producing songs for Masicka and Bambaata Marley, he launched his recording career in 2012 with Feel Alright.
