I-OCTANE, MAD COBRA URGE YOUNG ACTS TO BETTER THEIR STAGE CRAFT!

Following the relatively weak display from young acts at Best of the Best that was held in Miami last weekend, veteran deejay Mad Cobra is advising up-and-coming entertainers to put more effort into live performances.

According to the deejay, who used current affairs and social commentary to evoke positive responses from the audience, entertainment is more than just lyrics and a message.

“I don’t want it to sound like I am putting them down, but do some homework. I was at this stage during my younger years, and I was watching people like Shabba, Tony Rebel, Ninja Man and Josey Wales, and trying to learn from them,” he said.

The deejay also said poor responses from audiences should not be used as an indication that an artist is not loved.

“It just means that you should go back to the drawing board and figure out what did you do wrong. I am not going to really bash them, but I want them to know that it is very important to learn to perform because some audiences are harder to please than some. When you are performing in front some schoolchildren in Jamaica, it is different from when you are performing in front a big crowd of Caribbean people,” he said.

I-Octane, who had to pull out all stops to get a positive crowd response following a strong set by self-proclaimed ‘Queen of Stage Show’ Spice, told THE WEEKEND STAR that some young acts are overhyped locally.

“The man dem must just pay some attention to the craft and don’t let the hype get to you. When you are onstage, you are your best asset. So put in the extra time and dedication and plan your set and rehearse, and over time, you will improve,” he said, also noting that he has pushed back the release of his self-produced album to summer.

Best of The Best saw strong performances from Aidonia, I-Octane, Spice, Majah Hype, and Noah Powa.
