CLIFF… internationally recognized reggae star —
GLOUCESTER Avenue, Montego Bay’s famous Hip Strip, is to be renamed Jimmy Cliff Boulevard in honor of one of Jamaica’s most talented reggae artists.
The St James Municipal Corporation council meeting in April voted in favor of the renaming.
The Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation, at its council meeting on Tuesday, noted its support for the St James resolution seeking to rename Gloucester Avenue.
The resolution described James Chambers, better known as ‘Jimmy Cliff’, as “one of the great sons of the Somerton Division in St James”.
The resolution argued that it was fitting to rename Montego Bay’s Hip Strip that had become internationally famous for showcasing various talents in music and art the Jimmy Cliff Boulevard.
“The artist, through hard work and dedication to his craft, had risen to international fame and is now recognized as a great ambassador in reggae and culture,” the resolution said.
“Be it resolved that Gloucester Avenue or a part thereof be renamed ‘Jimmy Cliff Boulevard’ in honor of James Chambers,” it stated.
