HONOR FOR JAMAICA’S REGGAE STALWART ERROL DUNKLEY AT REGGAE FEST!

Stalwart singer Errol Dunkley will be the honoree at this year’s Jamaica Day Reggae Festival scheduled for July 15 at Howard County Fairgrounds in Maryland.

Carlos Daley, founder of the event, told the Jamaica Observer that it is important pioneer artists are properly recognized.

“If they were being honored over the years, maybe a lot of them wouldn’t end up in distress,” he said.

The 66-year-old Dunkley was a child star, recording a number of hit songs during the late 1960s and early 1970s. They include Please Stop Your Lying, Superstar, and Black Cinderella.

Moving to the United Kingdom, he had success with OK Fred and A Little Bit Different. Since the 1990s when there was a rocksteady/roots-reggae revival, Dunkley has been a fixture on oldies shows.

Ikaya, Sophia Brown and Johnny P will also perform at the 11th Jamaica Day Reggae Festival.

Alton Ellis, Leroy Sibbles, John Holt and Sugar Minott are some of the artistes who have also been honored by Daley and his team.
