For the second time in his career, Chronixx sits atop the Billboard Reggae Album chart. his much-anticipated debut album Chronology debuts at number one this week.
But although a release by Soul Circle Music and distributed by Universal Music’s Virgin EMI, Chronology posted disappointing first-week sales of 2,462 copies.
In April 2014, Chronixx debuted at number one with the EP, Dread & Terrible.
Chronology was released July 7 and contains 16 tracks. They include the hit songs Smile Jamaica and Spanish Town Rocking; Big Bad Sound (featuring his father Chronicle), I Know Love, Majesty, Likes, and Christina.
Chronixx went on well-received tours of North America to promote Chronology. He even made an appearance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in February.
The unimpressive figures for Chronology reflect the current Billboard Reggae Album table.
California band Rebelution has to date sold 37,962 copies of its Grammy-nominated Falling Into Place, which sits at number three. It has been on the chart for the past 59 weeks.
Stephen Marley’s Revelation Part II: The Fruit of Life, at number six, has charted for the past 52 weeks with sales of 12,838 copies.
His brother Ziggy’s Grammy-winning, self-titled set has been on the charts for the past 60 weeks. It debuted at number one and is now number 10 with sales of 14,494 copies.
Morgan Heritage debuted eight weeks ago with Avrakedabra. It is number 13 this week, having sold 760 copies to date.
Two of the hottest dancehall acts, Alkaline and Vybz Kartel, are yet to post double-digit figures for recent albums.
Alkaline’s New Level Unlocked, released in March last year, holds the number 31 spot. It has sold 3,488 copies.
Kartel’s King of The Dancehall has been on the chart for 55 weeks. Currently number 32, the set has sold 4,345 copies.
