NEW SECURITY MEASURES IMPLEMENTED AT JAMAICA’S TWO AIRPORTS, TRAVELERS WARNED TO EXPECT LENGTHY DELAYS!

Travelers to the United States using Jamaica’s two main international airports are being warned to expect a longer screening process as new security measures are implemented.

The measures are aimed at ensuring that Jamaica is compliant with new safety regulations imposed by the US Transportation Security Administration.

Persons travelling with personal electronic devices larger than a cell phone, such as laptops and tablet computers, will now be subjected to additional screening.

The US Government imposed the rule citing that these devices were now being used for terrorist purposes by organizations hostile to America.

The Airports Authority of Jamaica says discussions are being held with the Norman Manley International Airport and the Sangster International Airport on the new US policy.

The Authority says the airports will be enhancing their capacity for Electronic Trace Detection on passengers and baggage.

It notes this may impact the time taken to process persons through the screening checkpoints or in the event passengers are randomly selected for additional screening.

The agency says every effort is being made to provide a hassle free screening process and passengers are asked to cooperate with airlines and personnel doing screening.
