The film was also written and produced by Cannon, and had its world premiere last year at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

The film’s female lead was played by local make-up artist Kimberly Patterson. She played Maya, Cannon’s love interest.

Patterson was selected to be part of the TIFF International Actor’s Programme, which granted the actress access, insight, and advice from some of Hollywood’s top casting directors during the festival.

MAKE-UP CAREER

The budding actress has since been cast in local miniseries Losing Patience, and, with her ongoing make-up career, remains present on the film production scene.

“I’ve been on a lot of shoots with the crew, then they asked me to audition for the part of Desiree. You know the usual story. I don’t really consider myself an actress as yet, but I still went, and landed the role,” she said.

The young talent is now considering more work in front of the camera.

“I’m actually playing around with it, but I think I do see acting in the future,” she said, revealing that she recently returned from travel after wrapping for an international short film.

In King of the Dancehall, Cannon, best known for hosting duties on comedy sketch show Wild N’ Out, played a young man from Brooklyn who comes to Jamaica seeking quick money through what appears to be nefarious means.
