Veteran singer Michael Palmer is hoping to make a comeback on the music scene. He recently released two new songs Dreams and Come Fallah Mi . Both were produced by Ed Robinson.

“I’m still doing music. I have been recording and performing across the states,” said Palmer in an interview with the Sunday Observer.

Palmer is best known for the 1984 chart topping single Lickshot. Produced by George Phang and released on the Power House label, Lickshot catapulted the career of Palmer.

“Lickshot kicked open the doors. It was a great period in my career,” said Palmer.

Originally from the Maxfield Avenue area of Kingston 13, Palmer was inspired to follow his musical aspirations by his neighbour Leroy Smart.

“Leroy Smart lived next door and I always tried to be like him. I was attending Norman Manley Secondary school at the time and a lot of artists used to pass through the school. Music was what I wanted to do as a career,” said Palmer.

He made his recording debut in 1975 with the song Mr. Landlord, produced by Oswald Thomas. His first minor hit Angela recorded in 1979 for Keith Wignall’s Yah We Gone label.

Other hits included Smoke the Weed (Channel One), and Star Performer. Aside from split albums featuring other entertainers, Palmer released six solo albums.

In the late 1980’s, he gave up music and moved to the United States.

“I had problems with my vocals and I was advised to stop singing. I was out of the music business for close to 20 years,” said Palmer.

Palmer is a graduate of the sound system era (he honed his skills on sounds including Stereophonic and Afro Tone). Now 57 years old, he resides in New York.
