THE MOTHER OF A JAMAICAN WOMAN FOUND DEAD IN TRINIDAD, DEMANDS ANSWERS!

A Jamaican mother, Berbeth Grant, has been left distraught after she got news that her daughter, Amanda Reid, was found dead in Trinidad last Saturday under mysterious circumstances.

Grant, who is from Race Course, Clarendon, said that she has been seeing various unofficial stories about her daughter’s death on Facebook, with some claiming that she hung herself. However, she believes her beloved child was murdered.

“Them kill her Saturday morning, and her son’s birthday was the Sunday. When her son ask me questions, I don’t even know what to tell him,” Grant said on the verge of tears.

“My daughter would never kill herself. She tell me she soon come home to her pickney. I got a picture of the scene. She was sitting by the door with something around her neck. Them say she hung herself from the doorknob. That don’t make any sense to me,” Grant added.

Boyfriend’s house

She said she last heard from Amanda last Friday night, when she sent a voice note saying that she had just arrived home from work and she’s all right.

Grant told THE STAR that Amanda, 26, a past student of Kemps Hill High School in Clarendon, was found dead inside her boyfriend’s house in Chaguanas in Trinidad.

Amanda had gone there since February to work and to help care for her family in Jamaica.

Grant further explained that Amanda was living with her boyfriend, however, in recent times, the relationship between the two had broken down, and she was saving money to return to Jamaica.

The Trinidad police told THE STAR that they are treating the incident as an unnatural death, however, the post-mortem is outstanding. No one has been arrested in relation to the death.

Grant is imploring the Government and others who can assist to help her get to Trinidad to take her daughter’s body home and get answers about what really happened.

Feel angry

The single mother operates a small bar in Westmoreland, but she said business is extremely slow, and her now deceased daughter was the one helping her financially.

“I feel angry, and I break down each time that I see it on Facebook. I don’t know what to do. It have me confused, not eating. Sometimes it’s like me can’t even bathe. I really need some help,” Grant pleaded.

She said she needs assistance with plane tickets and money to ship the body home.

David Prendergast, Jamaican high commissioner to Trinidad, said that they are deeply concerned about the incident, and they are in touch with the Police High Command in relation to the case. He noted that the post-mortem has been delayed until Grant arrives in the country.

However, Grant remains grounded in Jamaica as she says that she does not have the first cent to book a flight.

Those wishing to assist may contact Berbeth Grant at 866-1297.
