AN ALL-STAR LINEUP FOR ERNIE SMITH’S “50th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION” SEPTEMBER 29, IN KINGSTON!

AN all-star line-up is expected for Solid Gold at Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston on September 29.

The concert will celebrate Ernie Smith’s 50 years in the music industry. Showtime is 8:00 pm.

Smith will be joined not only by his musical counterparts, but also by up-and-coming talent. The list of performers includes Pluto Shervington, Ken Boothe, Carlene Davis, Dizzy Minott, Capleton, Peter Ashbourne, Junior Tucker, Wayne Armond, Dean Fraser and Jon Williams. Smith’s children, Ojay and Sahara, are also billed to perform.

“Ernie has worked with many performers over the years. While he loves to perform with his contemporaries, there are many young performers with whom he has interacted and to whom he feels safe handing over the baton. This concert is the perfect opportunity by which he can present them to Jamaica and the world,” said Janet Smith, Solid Gold’s executive producer.

Part of the proceeds from Solid Gold will be going towards the Jamaica Association of Vintage Artists and Affiliates, to initiate an insurance fund. The funds will be used to cover the premium costs of five vintage artists who have made indelible contributions to Jamaica’s music, but who have fallen on hard times.

“No one likes to think of this time. But it really saddens me when I see the people who spent so many years developing the backbone of our musical culture, and who have not been fortunate enough to maintain financial stability, end up with nothing and no one to take care of them when they die. I think this contribution will help to make a difference, even for a few,” said Smith.
