The entertainer, who was against the mother’s action when the video first broke out on social media, interviewed Doreen Dyer on his Facebook Live program, MV Corner, on Wednesday.

Mr Vegas said he, like many Jamaicans, was quick to cast judgment on the mother for her actions as the scary scenario awakened emotions of anger.

However, after assessing the entire situation, the deejay said he felt that it was his duty as a parent, but most importantly as a human being, to hear the mother’s side of the story.

WE ARE ALL HUMANS

“A lot of people out there condemning Miss Doreen. A lot of people angry, which is understandable. If Miss Doreen were to see someone handling their child in that manner she would be angry too, but we’re all humans,” he said in the interview.

“I’m begging the judge from now to have some mercy on Miss Doreen and let her repair whatever is or was broken with her family. People will learn from their mistakes. We all deserve second chances.”

Mr Vegas said that while he does not support the mother beating her child with a cutlass, he does not believe jail is the best solution for the family.

In an interview with THE WEEKEND STAR, Mr Vegas pointed out that no child should have their parent taken away from them despite the circumstances, and is pleading with authorities to carefully consider their final decision regarding the family.

“When I saw the video, I was very outraged. I personally said she needed to go to jail because as a father, if I saw a video with any of my kids’ mother treating them in that manner, I would lose a fuse,” he explained.

“After the video circulated and I heard that the mother got locked up and it was a possibility that she would lose custody, I did some research and I heard from a few persons around me about some of the disadvantages of some of these institutions here in Jamaica. I could not continue to support her going to jail.”

Mr Vegas said he is now hoping the authorities handling the case would see things as he now sees them and give the family a chance to heal.
