ARTISTS FROM SEAVIEW GARDENS ARE GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY!

BY SIMONE MORGAN-LINDO—

A group of artists with connections to Seaview Gardens in St Andrew will be giving of themselves and giving back to that inner-city community.

The list of artists, which include the likes of Bounty Killer, Dexta Daps and Blakkman, will be part of a charity concert on October 29 with the proceeds going towards various causes in Seaview Gardens.

United States-based record label Island Jams along with Osbournes Distribution Company are the engine behind this initiative set to be held at the Red Stripe Oval on Spanish Town Road and dubbed the Seaview Gardens Neighborhood Assistance.

Speaking with the Jamaica Observer, Island Jams CEO Sherone Joseph said the idea of hosting a charitable event for the community’s children was never far from her mind.

“I am very familiar with Seaview as I have worked with several entertainers from there. We used to keep a small weekly event in the community. Whenever we would go to the police station for the permit, one of the officers always showed myself and Blakkman an open lot which he said would make a great recreational area for the community’s children,” she said.

“We knew that a recreation center would be costly, but the idea of a stage show came up. Blakkman then reached out to Bounty Killer and he was more than happy to came on board for the project,” she added.

In addition, Island Jams is currently accepting applications for three scholarships which will be presented at the Seaview Gardens Neighborhood Assistance event.

The first scholarship will be awarded to an ‘A’ student who is in financial need. The second will go to a deserving high achiever in school but who struggles to attend school due to the absence of a parent as a result of criminal activity. The third is the Blakkman Scholarship, which will go to a student who excels in the area of the performing arts.
