JESSE Royal tops this week’s Billboard Reggae album chart with his debut effort Lily of Da Valley. The 14-track set was released on October 6 by Easy Star Records.
“I am definitely feeling highly inspired and honored. A lot of hard work went into this project and the reality is, I don’t make music for the accolades but I am definitely grateful for these blessings and tremendous support from the people,” Jesse Royal told the Jamaica Observer yesterday.
Lily of Da Valley sold 1,436 copies in its first week. He spoke about the work that went into creating the album.
“A lot of focus and dedication. A lot of tough decisions and tougher discussions, but all in all it was a labor of love,” he said.
He spoke about the producers who worked on the set.
“Riff Raff was a very integral part of the entire sound of the project. We see eye to eye where a lot of things are concerned but also had a couple disagreements, but all in all it was for what was best for the project. Apart from Riff, there is a co-production from myself and Curt White titled Full Moon. Winta James also lent his support as well as Biggy and Kareem,” he said.
Back on this week’s chart, Stony Hill by Damian Marley holds firm at number two despite selling an additional 535 copies over the past week, to bring his tally to 13,902 copies.
New at three is The Science of Numbers by four-member Denver, Colorado outfit Project 432. The set moved 150 copies. Moving up two spots to four is Landon McNamara’s A Dollar Short & A Minute Late which sold 147. Its total haul to date stands at 3,982 copies.
Chronology by Chronixx is at five with 4,999 copies sold to date, while Falling into Place by Rebelution is up four places to six.
Last week’s chart topper Old Time Something Come Back Again by the Expanders falls to seven with a two-week haul of 612 copies, while the 13-track Lift Up by reggae rock quartet Signal Fire from North Carolina debuts at eight, selling 74 copies.
At nine is Know No Better (EP) by Major Lazer which has so far moved 4,852 copies, while Lost in Paradise by Common Kings rises to number 10, selling 7,530 to date.
Soca Gold 2017 is up to number 11, with 1,481 copies sold to date, while Reggae Gold 2017 falls to 12 to bring its tally to 1,731.
New at 13 is Memories of Dennis Emanuel Brown by musician Dean Frazer. First Class Rocksteady, a compilation of various artists, is at 14, having sold 1,269 to date, while the number 15 spot is occupied by Lee “Scratch” Perry + Subatomic with Super Ape Returns to Conquer.
