On Monday, National Heroes Day, Dwayne Adams, more popularly known as DMedz, placed the spotlight on crime in the Farm/Effortville area with a peace march dubbed Nuh Falla Bad Company.

The artist, who originates from Fernleigh Avenue in May Pen, said his goal is to try and regain the love and unity in the community.

“I want to eradicate the fast rate of murder taking place; I just want to mek the youth dem know you don’t have to make a point by taking a life,” he told Rural Xpress.

DMedz said he put his all into the initiative as the issue is close to his heart because his parents still live in the parish capital and Farm sits so close that whatever happens there easily affects the town center.

The march, which started with prayer at the clock and Niabinghi drumming, proceeded along Sevens Road to the adjoining communities.

Commenting on his choice of route, the singer said it was influenced by the fact that a child lost his life there and a mother was also shot. Another contributing factor is that the community is difficult to contain.

“The Police is having trouble containing crime because of how it is set up. Criminals can find hideout so it’s going to take more than police and soldier to fight crime; it must be a parish effort and a people effort,” he said.

Although a recording artist DMedz said he chose not to use a concert to get the message across as he wanted to identify personally with the issue.

“I am an artist singing every day and sometimes I feel that the message is not reaching people the way you would like. However, when you march with the people it shows that you care and are one with them,” he said.

The march meant so much to the artist that he didn’t mind going into his pocket to help making it a reality. With the march over DMedz is hoping it will have the results he is looking for. From the support and responses he has received so far, he has a good feeling about the effort.

“I just hope it uplifts the people’s spirit and hope the word goes out to these murderers that DMedz cares,” he said.
