THE JAMAICA CUSTOMS AGENCY IS WORKING WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES IN NORTH AMERICA, TO STOP ILLEGAL GUN SHIPMENTS!

The Jamaica Customs Agency says it continues to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in North America to disrupt the illegal shipment of firearm and ammunition to the island.

Velma Ricketts Walker, Commissioner of Customs, says a number of arrests have been made following the seizure of rifles and other high-powered weapons at ports in Kingston since the start of the year.

“While we work on detection then disruption, we are also working on prevention, so we are coordinating our efforts with our US counterparts because most of those firearms come from North America, mainly from the US, Florida region. So we are working with them to ensure that they help us to prevent anything from a border protection perspective,” declared the commissioner.

She said investigations can be challenging, as often, the names given by senders and receivers are fraudulent making it difficult to arrest the perpetrator.
