A CURFEW IS IMPOSED IN ST. CATHERINE, SOUTH!

 The police this evening imposed a curfew in sections of Central Village in St Catherine.—

The curfew began at 6:00 pm and will remain in effect until 6:00 pm on Thursday, the police say. The curfew comes on heels of one that was imposed in other sections of the parish last Thursday after Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced a state of emergency in St James.

National Security Minister Robert Montague told Parliament this afternoon that as criminal elements flee St James to neighboring parishes in light of the state of emergency, operations are being conducted across the country to apprehend wanted men.

He said so far, 18 people were detained in St Catherine North and one in St Catherine South. The boundaries of the curfew are as follows:

North: along the Nelson Mandela Highway from Andrews Lane in the east to the dirt road between Union Estate and Twickenham Housing Scheme.

South: along the northern bank of the Rio Cobre River from the western boundary.

East: along an imaginary line from the Nelson Mandela Highway along Andrews Lane and continuing along the western bank of the Rio Cobre to the intersection.

West: along the dirt road between Union Estate and Twickenham Housing Scheme turning right unto Central Road and continuing to the northern bank of the Rio Cobre River.

South: along the east bound lane of the Nelson Mandela Highway from the vicinity of the ackee factory to the entrance of Compound (taxi Stand).

East: along an imaginary line from the east bound lane of the Nelson Mandela Highway along Windsor Heights Road to the intersection with the northern boundary (where the road turns to the left) West: along an imaginary line from the east bound lane of the Nelson Mandela Highway to the football field at Zambia intersecting with the northern boundary.

During the hours of the curfew, all people within the boundaries are required to remain within their premises unless otherwise authorized by the ground commander.
