AFTER 14 YEARS, DANCEHALL ARTIST KIBAKI IS STILL HUNTING FOR THE BIG BREAK!

Dancehall artiste Kibaki believes that single mothers are the backbone of most communities in Jamaica and ought to be applauded for the work they do in shaping future generations.

That is why he recorded and released his latest single, Mama.

“A just the livity mi see a gwaan inna the community. I am a dedicated father, but when mi look around, mi realise is mostly the mothers are the glue a keep society together. So this song is not so much a tribute as a statement of fact. Mothers really hold it down for everybody,” Kibaki said.

He believes he is on the verge of a breakthrough given the tremendous response to the single which was released on the Sweet Music label in recent weeks.

The artiste, who has been searching for his big break for more than 14 years, believes this record could finally be the one.

“The feedback is incredible so far. Everybody is loving the video for the Mama song. People a respond to it, and when it drop on the radio, and in the streets inna the dance, people a go crazy over it,” he said, noting that the video is now at number three on the FIWI Choice Top 10 chart.

In the meantime, another single, Smooth and Easy, is also in rotation on radio.

“Right now, the whole a Grants Pen a create a movement behind the ting. The video is doing well, the radio is up, and the streets a say Kibaki,” he said.

The deejay believes that his career is finally taking off as he just inked a recording and booking deal with United States-based label Sweet Music.

“People knew that I had the talent, but I never got the promotion. But now mi have the platform to get full promotion. That happened because I have been signed to a label for the first time. It is important to have proper management,” he said.

Kibaki recorded his first song in 1999. In 2002, he gave up professional club football for music. He continued to record music, scoring minor hits with Jah Jah Never Fail I Yet, which was produced by Daseca in 2010, and Jah Jah Children Beware.
