Hudson Taylor, pastor of Ocho Rios Church of God of Prophecy in St Ann, is a humble man who believes in working for what he wants, and so it was not easy for his church family to surprise him with a car.

Finding means to raise the money secretly, the church managed to get him a gift for 2018 — a brand new Honda CR-V. Bishop Taylor was presented with the keys to the car at church, recently.

Church members were excited that they were able to help their pastor become mobile.

Bishop Taylor had for years been taking public transportation to carry out his duties as regional overseer and pastor for two churches with duties that include travelling late nights to preach in various locations. His church family saw that he was in need of a car. It was then that they decided to try and raise the money and to surprise him with a car for Christmas.

Church members said that they had to raise the funds secretly because they knew he would convince them not to buy the car if he knew.

“He would say no because he does not like the attention and he does not want people to talk,” one church member told the Jamaica Observer North and East.

They were unable to make the purchase in time for Christmas, but he now has the keys.

“It has been a lot of work and sacrifices,” noted committee head Lynette Salmon during the short handing over ceremony at the church.

Salmon chaired the committee along with Karen McLean to make the gift a possibility.

Bishop Taylor, in his response, expressed gratitude stating that: “This will make work much easier as this will significantly minimize the amount of time going from point to point using public transportation.”

Bishop Taylor has been overseer for two parishes, St Ann and Trelawny, since 2009. While carrying out his duties as overseer, he also pastors two churches.
