A Jamaican man from Mocho in Clarendon was among six people that died in the collapse of the pedestrian bridge in Miami Florida on Thursday.
According to the Miami Herald, Navaro Brown, 37 was an employee of a company that provides products to strengthen bridges.
According to a spokesman, Michael Biesiada from the company Structural Technologies VSL, two other employees were hospitalized, however their conditions were stable.
He added that “our thoughts and prayers are with Mr Brown’s family and with the other affected employees.” “We really appreciate the work of the first responders who immediately offered their help.”
According to the Herald, Biesiada wouldn’t say exactly what Brown and the other employees were doing on the bridge when it collapsed, but he confirmed that Structural Technologies VSL was working on the project “providing installation support for our products.”
The Herald reported that Brown’s cousin, Appleonia Brown, posted on Facebook that Brown, of Jamaica, was a ‘hard-working, humble youth.’
A friend of Brown from Mocho took to Facebook to express that death has once again stolen a young soul. “It’s so sad to see his mom and wife heading to Miami to identify/receive his body. RIP Navaro” the post further added.
The bridge connected Florida International University with the city of Sweetwater.
At least five other people perished when the pedestrian bridge featuring an innovative engineering design collapse onto a busy road in Miami, less than a week after its installation that took just six hours.
As of late Friday afternoon, the other casualties of the accident have not been named.
