EIGHTEEN-YEAR OLD SINGJAY PINKY FAMOUS, TACKLES SERIOUS ISSUES IN HER SONGS!

 Pinky Famous —

Though only 18 years old, singjay Pinky Famous refuses to be categorized as a teen entertainer, choosing to tackle adult topics such as infidelity and social inequality.

“I want to reach a broad audience, if you make certain type of songs young people will listen to you for a certain time, but older fans stay with you once the songs are good,” she said.

Pinky Famous knows her way around the game, having recorded her first song in 2009. Like her current songs, Heartbreaker and Jiggle, that early effort was produced by her father Oneil Darby, known to sound system fans in the Spanish Town area as deejay Oneil Famous.

Heartbreaker tackles that age-old relationship spoiler, cheating, while the suggestive Jiggle appeals to a hardcore dancehall audience. Jiggle samples Take Your Time (Do It Right), the 1980 hit song from American funk group, The SOS Band.

Jiggle has a pop feel that Pinky Famous says shows her diverse musical tastes.

“I’m definitely a reggae artiste but because of the vibe of the song, I just went with the flow.”

While refusing to limit her base, most of Pinky Famous’ early songs were geared at her peers. Those include We Need Justice and Educate The Youngsters Dem.

Born Tishana Trefena Darby in Kingston, Pinky Famous was raised around music through her father’s ties to sound systems like Metro Media which he worked with during the 1980’s. Influenced by Etana, Rihanna and Kesha Cole, she started out doing ‘jingles’ for her father’s cellphone voice mail, before officially launching her recording career at nine years old.

Heartbreaker and School Bus Ride will be on Pinky Famous’ first EP, scheduled for release in the summer.
