Rocksteady group The Tennors are enjoying a return to the spotlight thanks to a new Heineken Light television commercial. Currently running in North America, the ad features their 1973 song, Another Scorcher, which was written by Jackie Bernard of The Kingstonians and produced by Albert “Clive Tennors” Murphy. It was produced by Murphy and released on his Tennors label. Bernard died in 2014.

Murphy, who lives in south Florida, said a European representative for Heineken contacted him six months ago, seeking permission to use the song. The ad began airing last week.

The St Mary-born Murphy formed The Tennors in Kingston, during the mid-1960’s, with Maurice “Professor” Johnson as The Tennor Twins. They were later joined by Norman Davis and scored their first hit song, Pressure And Slide, in 1967, for producer Clement Dodd. The Tennors continued to record after Johnson’s death and had another massive hit with Ride Yuh Donkey, written and produced by Murphy. That song is featured in the 2005 movie, Broken Flowers.

Murphy, a born-again Christian, said Another Scorcher was recorded at Randy’s studio in downtown Kingston with Aubrey Adams on organ, Theophilus Beckford on piano and Alva “Reggie” Lewis playing guitar.

Over the years, The Tennors has gone through several changes. Murphy has always led the line-up which also has Howard Spencer and Hal Anthony as members.

They perform throughout Europe while Murphy is still active as a producer.
