GEORGE NOOKS HOSTS CHRISTMAS TREAT FOR THE GOLDEN-AGED IN VINEYARD TOWN!

Reggae artiste George Nooks hosted a Christmas treat for the residents of the Golden Age home in Vineyard Town earlier this month. 

He, with the assistance of Delfreda Cammock-Thorpe, the operations manager, feted and fed the residents of clusters C and D, and then in the evening, Nooks delivered a spirited gospel-based performance for the audience of senior citizens, some missing limbs and teeth because of the ravages of diabetes and time. 

Nooks performed songs such as ‘Bridge Over Troubled Waters’, ‘God Will Take Care of You’ and ‘God Is Standing By’. During one high point of the performance, two sixty-plus year old senior citizens, male and female, clutched each other and danced close, prompting supervisor Morelene Moncrieffe, to admonish them: “it’s not that kind of song!’.

He closed the gospel segment of his performance with ‘Ride out the Storm’ and the seniors sang along lustily and spiritedly so much so that Nooks was forced to say: “Ok, church, I hear you.”

Nurses such as Shanique Miller and Christalie Anderson got up and swayed to the gospel-infused beats, while others Karon Hanson and Marsha Minto sang along to Nooks’ vocal stylings. 

Then Nooks took a break and returned with rocksteady and reggae favourites such as John Holt’s ‘Left with a Broken Heart’ and ‘Stick By You’, Dennis Brown’s plaintive ‘Should I Have Faith in You?’ before closing strongly with his classic, ‘Tribal War’. 

Nooks also made a significant donation to the Golden Age home with a gift of four steel doors and six windows to aid in the replacement of worn-out fixtures at the institution. 

Earlier this year, Nooks also feted and serenaded the ladies in cluster C during a Mother’s Day event at the home. 

“I just like giving back to the senior citizens on whose backs this great country was built, i am just playing my part to make their Christmas a joyous and special occasion,” Nooks said.
