LUKIE D GOES REGGAE WITH NEIL DIAMOND’S “SWEET CAROLINE!”

When The Firehouse Crew’s drummer George Miller thought of covering “Sweet Caroline”, Lukie D was the artist who came to mind for a reggae spin on the 1969 Neil Diamond classic.

As Lukie D recalls, “He presented me with the idea and I was immediately on board.”

His version of “Sweet Caroline” is produced by The Firehouse Crew who also backed him on the song. Dean Fraser revisits the original’s memorable horn intro on saxophone.

Known for hit songs like “Centre of Attraction” and for being a member of harmony quartet LUST, Lukie D admits he is “definitely a Neil fan”.

He added that, “I knew about Neil Diamond from when I was a kid. I loved all his songs from then, like ‘Red Red Wine, I Am…I Said, Song Sung Blue, etc.”

“Sweet Caroline” is one of Diamond’s enduring songs. Not only is it a regular on playlists of easy-listening radio stations in the United States, it is the unofficial theme song for the Boston Red Sox.

The Firehouse Crew formed in the late 1980s at the recording studio of legendary audio engineer Osbourne “King Tubby” Ruddock. In the 1990s, they played on many hit songs by Luciano, including his “Where There is Life” album, Sizzla and artists associated with producer Phillip “Fatis” Burrell’s Xterminator label.
