JONI SLEDGE, FOUNDING MEMBER OF SISTER SLEDGE OF “WE ARE FAMILY” FAME, DIES AT 60!
The singer passed away after being found unresponsive in her home —By Britni Danielle—- Singer Joni Sledge, founding member of the iconic musical group Sister Sledge, has passed away. According to a statement released by the group’s reps, Sledge was found unresponsive at her home in Phoenix, Arizona on March 10 and was later pronounced dead. She was 60. Joni, along with her sisters Debbie, Kim and Kathy, joined forces in 1971 to form Sister Sledge, a group that crossed genres to attain massive success. Holness, who is an avid social media user, had said that while he has nothing against dancehall, he believes that daggering dances in particular contribute largely to the violence in the country. ROOTS ARTIST TEFLON, WANTS NEGATIVE SONGS REMOVED FROM THE JAMAICAN AIRWAVES!
Teflon— Reggae and dancehall artist Teflon has been on a crusade calling for the music to be cleaned up. The artist has released a single titled ‘Legacy’ in which he tackles the problems facing the music and the industry at large. “It’s time for us to take a stand to nurture the music. We have to stand on our feet and defend the music because a lot of persons benefit from music in general,” Teflon said. Legacy is produced by Yard A Love Records. Teflon has been vocal in recent media interviews, asking the authorities to remove the negative lyrics from the airwaves. BOSTON-BASED SINGER CASTAFARI, RELEASES NEW SINGLE “YOUR LIFE!”
BY HOWARD CAMPBELL– Castafari.— Boston-based singer Castafari encourages self-reliance in his new song, Your Life. He considers widespread dependence a negative. “People need to look in the mirror and say, ‘help yourself’. What we have today is people depending on a president or a boyfriend when they should be doing things for themselves,” he reasoned. Your Life is produced by Bling Beatz Records, an independent company run by Jamaicans in Cape Cod, Massac-husetts. The 39-year-old Castafari (real name Andre Owaldo Collins) has lived in Boston since 1992, releasing a number of singles and one album. The latter, Just Life, came out in 2012.
