  U-ROY… the album has not been released in Jamaica as yet— FOUNDATION artist and toaster U-Roy is back in the island following a short stint in Europe where he performed at Reggae Ska as well as made a few more stops in that continent. According to the taxi driver, he entered several local competitions which never reaped any dividends. His fortunes recently changed, however, after being announced the winner of the talent competition at the NinjaMan Taxi Appreciation Fun Day in Ocho Rios, St Ann. Using the moniker Zedek, the driver — who plies the Mount Salem to Montego Bay route — won cash prize of $250,000, plus a recording contract with Downsound Records label. “I am 100 per cent ready to work with Downsound. DANCEHALL IS SCARCE ON BILLBOARD MUSIC CHARTS!

 Top: Chronixx Bottom: Jah Cure Canadian pop band MAGIC! holds the top positions on Billboard’s Digital Reggae Singles chart, based on latest figures from SoundScan. Their big hit, Rude, is still number one after several weeks. Let Your Hair Down occupies the number two position. Rude has sold over 2.4 million copies, while Let Your Hair Down (which entered the chart eight weeks ago) has sold over 48,000 copies. New York-based singjay Kranium and singer Jah Cure are the only Jamaicans with songs in the Top 50. Most of the songs by Jamaicans in the Top 100 were released over two years ago. The sold out Jamaican Mafia movie premiere that was supposed to be held last night at the Sunrise Multiplex Cinemas, Valley Stream in New York never happened. Promoters Irie Jam, Thursday morning, are in a quandary about what actually caused the cancellation of the premiere. “We are deeply sorry for what transpired last night but the decision to cancel the event was out of our control” said Bobby Clarke, CEO Irie Jam radio, 93.5 FM.
