TORONTO-BASED SINGER, SHOW STEPHENS, RELEASES DEBUT SINGLE “SO AMAZING!”

By Howard Campbell—- STEPHENS… music scene in Toronto is on the up but is a crab-in-a-barrel situation— Growing up in Toronto, Canada singer Show Stephens says he soaked up the different sounds on radio and in the city’s clubs. Some of those influences can be heard on So Amazing, his debut song, which was released this month. “It’s a blessing to put my first record out there, I put my blood, sweat and tears in it and It makes me feel good to make others feel good while they are listening to my music,” he said. TV’S “DANCEHALL’S GOT TALENT” COMES TO NEW YORK CITY!

  By Cecelia Campbell-Livingston— Nikki Z to host upcoming talent show. Production on Dancehall’s Got Talent, a new television show scheduled to air in October, starts Friday in New York City. It will be broadcast on OmniPresent Media and OPM Digital Network. The show’s publicist, Malaika Lepine, says its objective is to expose new talent. “It gives opportunities for upcoming talent to really showcase and represent their culture in a way all reggae and dancehall music lovers can enjoy.” The 18-episode series will be hosted by Nicole ‘Nikki Z’ Duhaney. There are three judges: singer Ed Robinson, Irie Jam Radio’s DJ Roy and fashion personality Dougie Platinum. Dancehall’s Got Talent was created by LA Wright and Kevin Beswick who are also executive producers along with Irie Jam’s Bobby Clarke. HISTORY MAN ON TOUR IN FRANCE!

   History Man– THE informative History Man, who has played the European club and festival scene for several years, is currently in France performing with French band, Skamelia. The singer has been in France since June and is also working on his third album, Higher Ites. To date, he has performed on the Moove Les Minimes Festival, Mongiscard for France Music Day and Launac: Festival Wassa ‘N’ Africa. “This trip will be extended to Germany, Portugal and Switzerland. While in France, History Man is doing collaborations with a number of French artists,” his publisher, Tony Mack, told the Jamaica Observer. TRUMPETER BOBBY ELLIS IS HONORED WITH JAMAICA’S NATIONAL AWARD!

  ELLIS… I thank God for it—- TRUMPETER Bobby Ellis is one of those revered Jamaican musicians who never made a lot of money from music. But he yearned recognition for his work. Ellis’ wish came true early this month when he got a telephone call from the Government informing him that he is the recipient of the Order of Distinction (Officer Class) for his contribution to the development of Jamaican music. “I always think of it yuh nuh…if I can get an award or something like that for music. Singer John Holt—- Curtis Campbell– The Chairman of the Jamaica Association of Vintage Artists and Affiliates (JAVAA), Frankie Campbell, is wishing singer John Holt a speedy and lasting recovery, following his recent collapse onstage at the One Love Festival in Springfield in the United Kingdom. Campbell told The Sunday Gleaner that the I Want A Love I Can Feel singer did an operation last month and was, perhaps, back in action too early. “I just think he went back to performing too early. We don’t want to lose anybody else at this point in Jamaican music – certainly, not Holt,” Campbell said. AMY WINEHOUSE TO BE COMMEMORATED WITH A STATUE IN HER HOME TOWN!

  Amy Winehouse LONDON (AP) — Amy Winehouse is to be commemorated with a statue in the London neighbourhood where she lived and worked. The late singer’s family says the statue will be unveiled in Camden Town on September 14, her 31st birthday. The bronze likeness by Scott Eaton will stand in Camden’s bustling market, which draws tourists from around the world with its food, craft and clothing outlets and street performers. It had initially been slated for outside the nearby Roundhouse concert hall. But the singer’s father, Mitch Winehouse, said yesterday that the new site would be more accessible for fans. He said that “now Amy will oversee the comings and goings of her home town forever.” The beehived diva died at her Camden home in July 2011 from accidental alcohol poisoning. PAINTER/MURALIST HOWARD “RAS IBRAK” McDONALD GETS READY FOR HIS ONE-MAN EXHIBIT!
