SHANIQUE MYRIE IS FINALLY PAID BY THE BARBADIAN GOVERNMENT!

MYRIE… it was a long wait but finally it is over— AFTER a frustrating eight-month wait, Shanique Myrie has finally been paid by the Barbadian Government. However, the money is short of B$1,000, Myrie told the Jamaica Observer. Myrie was awarded damages in the sum of US$38,000 by the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) after she filed a lawsuit claiming she was subjected to a dehumanising cavity search by a female immigration officer at Grantley Adams International Airport, locked in a filthy room overnigwht and deported to Jamaica in March 2011. “My lawyer called me this morning (Monday) and told me the money was in the account. WAYNE WONDER KICKS OFF HIS FIRST CANADIAN TOUR!

  Wayne Wonder—— International Reggae recording artist Wayne Wonder kicked off his first-ever tour of Canada last Friday at the Estate Nightclub in Toronto. The seven-show tour, which runs until July 1, will see Wonder performing at a number of club venues, including Club XO in Edmonton on June 27 and the Karma Club in Winnipeg on June 30. Opening for Wonder on this inaugural tour will be Canada-based reggae singer Shalli, who is best known for her singles Show My Love and Down in Jamaica. Wonder is also set to release a new video for his single Many Reasons, which is featured on the Natural Juice rhythm. WINNERS of the inaugural Jamaica Best School Band (JBSB) Competition, Pembroke Hall High School, are the recipients of a new bass guitar from veteran bassist Lloyd Parkes. The presentation was made recently at the school’s Kingston location. Parkes, who started the We The People Band in 1974, was one of the competition’s judges. He urged the school band to keep practising and be disciplined. The 16-member Positive Vibrations (name of the Pembroke Hall band) won the JBSB competition in May at the Countryside Club.
