SEVENTEEN JAMAICAN ACTS FOR THE SIERRA NEVADA WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL JUNE 20-22!

Tarrus Riley & Derrick Morgan— A SLEW of Jamaican acts are scheduled to perform at the 21st annual Sierra Nevada World Music Festival set to take place in Boonville, California, from June 20-22. A total of 17 reggae and dancehall acts have been advertised for the three-day festival. The Sierra Nevada show, along with another California event, Reggae On The River, are the longest-running ‘reggae’ festivals in the United States. Fast-rising roots reggae act Kabaka Pyramid and his Bebble Rockers band are among the headliners for the first night. THE DISPUTE OVER ROYALTY AND PUBLISHING RIGHTS TO BOB MARLEY SONGS IS SETTLED!

A judge dismisses a record company’s claim to 13 of the Jamaican reggae star’s songs following a dispute over publishing rights.   Bob Marley died May 11, 1981 from skin cancer. A music company has lost a High Court fight with a rival over the rights to 13 Bob Marley songs, including one of his most famous, No Woman, No Cry. Cayman Music and Blue Mountain Music went to trial in May after a dispute over a copyright agreement made in 1992. The case centred on the “construction” of the agreement – 11 years after the Jamaican reggae icon’s death on May 11, 1981 – under which copyrights in “various musical works” were transferred by Cayman. THE CANADIAN CARIBBEAN GOSPEL MUSIC AWARDS TO HONOR THE GRACE THRILLERS JUNE 14!

According to Howard Mahoney, event conceptualiser, the influential group deserves the honor. “The Grace Thrillers are the forerunners for Caribbean gospel music. Most Caribbean gospel artists have patterned themselves off their work. The Grace Thrillers have been more than a group but an institution,” Mahoney told the Jamaica Observer. GAYS PROTEST AGAINST CAPLETON IN NEW YORK CITY WAS IN VAIN!

Capleton was in fine form at BB King Club and Grill in New York last weekend despite a massive protest from gay rights group to axe him off the show. The protest comes only days after gays protest against Queen Ifrica causing the promoter of a show in New York to take her off the roster.
