AFTER SOCIAL MEDIA BACKLASH, PRIME MINISTER ANDREW HOLNESS CHANGED HIS STANCE ON DANCEHALL!

By Curtis Campbell— Andrew Holness— Prime Minister Andrew Holness has changed his views on dancehall following backlash from popular dancehall enthusiasts. Holness, who is an avid social media user, had said that while he has nothing against dancehall, he believes that daggering dances in particular contribute largely to the violence in the country. However, following a beating online, he has since cleared up his prior statements and now sings a different tune. In a video currently being circulated on social media, Holness says dancehall is a national asset. “Music is art, music is culture, and art and culture are not just the reflection of the current state of reality. Art and culture are to elevate the people … When foreigners come here, they take it and go back and package it and use it in their own … Read entire article »

PAJ President Dionne Jackson Miller, in her letter to the prime minister, urged Mr Holness, not ordinarily known to be media-shy, to talk more with newsmen in the new year for the benefit of the public. “The PAJ stressed that it was very concerned about media access to ministers of government, and particularly to Mr Holness as prime minister,” Jackson Miller said in a press statement. The organisation had similar complaints against the previous prime minister, Portia Simpson Miller, accusing her of not speaking directly to the press for most of the time she was prime minister between … Read entire article »

DANCEHALL ARTIST SPICE, FACES BACKLASH FOR RAUNCHY PERFORMANCE HONORING ATHLETES!

BY: DENIECA BROWN  The blame game has started after Spice’s awkward performance for athletes at the National Indoor Sports Centre on Saturday. Minutes before she was to hit the stage to perform  at an event to honour Jamaican athletes, Spice tweeted “#I got this”, showing off her fuzzy shoes. But, while her confidence was ‘Up’ and her energy was super high, a scantily-clad Spice -with posterior visible – was greeted with awkward silence from an audience that included Prime Minister Andrew Holness and Governor General Sir Patrick Allen among other dignitaries. Spice’s performance was in stark contrast to the well-received set delivered by Kevin Downswell.  Nothing in the gospel singer’s set seemed to have prepared the audience for the ‘spicy’ performance by the dancehall artist. Among the athletes being honored, Shelly-Ann Fraser- Pryce and Yohan … Read entire article »
