THE “CRIME FREE CHRISTMAS” CAMPAIGN GETS CORPORATE SUPPORT!

By Shereita Grizzle— Songbird Tessanne Chin joins campaign organizer and popular guitarist, Lamont ‘Monty’ Savory.— The Crime Free Christmas initiative, set to kick-start later today, has received a huge boost as several corporate entities have thrown their support behind the cause. Pledging to join hands with over a dozen Jamaican artists and musicians, companies such as Wisynco, FLOW and Innovative Signs are hoping to attract even more eyes to the project. Each company contributed to the production of the campaign, which will air in local media, traditional and online. The project will feature artists performing songs of the Yuletide season with their own unique spin. THERE ARE PLENTY OF REGGAE/DANCEHALL ALBUMS, BUT FEW TAKERS!

By Kevin Jackson—    Grammy Award-winning reggae band Morgan Heritage.— Strictly Roots by Morgan Heritage won Best Reggae Album at the 58th Grammy Awards on February 15, but unlike their pop counterparts, it has not got a major sales boost. Released on the group’s CTBC label, Strictly Roots has sold 6,005 copies in the United States. A week after the Grammys, the album sold 268 copies; last week, it moved an additional 128 copies. The Morgan Heritage set is a reflection of continued downward sales for reggae and dancehall. The number one album on the Billboard Reggae Album Chart, Set in Stone by California dub band Stick Figure, sold 280 copies over the past week. ENTERTAINER ASSASSIN A.K.A AGENT SASCO WAS ROBBED WHILE SHOOTING VIDEO!

 Agent Sasco (aka Assassin)— DANCEHALL entertainer Agent Sasco’s (aka Assassin) vehicle was broken into and his passport stolen while at a video shoot on Lincoln Road, popularly called Black Roses Corner. The incident took place Wednesday night. According to police reports, Sasco (given name Jeffery Campbell) was part of the shoot which featured American rapper J. Cole. On leaving the set, the dancehall artist discovered the passenger window of his Audi Q5 was broken and the document missing. The matter was reported to the Admiral Town Police on Thursday, who are conducting investigations. No arrest has been made. Sasco has been creating waves internationally in recent times. His collaboration on Blacker the Berry with American rapper Kendrick Lamar went gold in April. ASSASSIN ACHIEVES HIS FIRST GOLD RECORD IN “BLACKER THE BERRY” WITH KENDRICK LAMAR!

Assassin is featured on American rapper Kendrick Lamar’s The Blacker the Berry, which recently peaked at number 66 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 32 on the R&B Hip Hop Songs chart. The song also peaked at number 20 on the UK R&B Singles chart and reached number 90 in Belgium. However, that number is about to increase as Assassin, also known as Agent Sasco, gets ready to release his latest studio album. When The Gleaner caught up with the deejay following his performance at the Best of the Best concert in Miami recently, he revealed that an album is in the works and could be released later this year or early next year.
