COMMENTARY BY AUBREY CAMPBELL: “IT’S A FULL MONTH OF HOLIDAY FOR JAMAICA AND JAMAICANS!

Folks, it’s Monday and the start of another week and a new month, August. That means, it’s the middle of Summer and that’s why so many of our folks, woke up with such tall tales this morning. A mid Summer night’s dream; of who is the richest politician in Jamaica, ever; of gunshots sounding like reggae rhythms at dinner outside the team training camp in Rio; of more death and destruction on the highways and speedways; of passing the mental fitness test necessary to be the POTUS; and of cricket’s red hot, leading lady. Oh boy, and isn’t she gorgeous? She was on full display for Florida and the world to see, this past weekend! Switching gears, folks, take it from me. Anything that is worth waiting for, for four long years, … Read entire article »

COMMENTARY FROM AUBREY CAMPBELL: “WHEN IS THE TRUTH AN OFFENSE…?”

Good day folks. If you started the day and the work week, pondering, wondering just what kind of world are we living in, count your blessings, you are not alone. The weekend past, produced more bloodshed and wonderment, and I am thinking that somewhere, out there, something, someone, is under siege! Is it/could it be the institution of law enforcement and public safety, is it black lives or all lives? Which brings up the question. Are we now settling our disputes in the court of lawlessness? Did this matter of jungle justice just happen upon us? Right off the bat, this eye for an eye approach is not going to work. Folks, there is much danger lurking around the corner and as Reggae Jambassador Ini Kamoze crooned some decades ago, ‘out in di … Read entire article »

AUBREY CAMPBELL’S COMMENTARY: THE JAMAICA DIASPORA IN THE USA NEEDS A STRUCTURE!

Folks, this is the day that the Lord has made, Let’s rejoice and be glad in and of it. This weekend, the Jamaica Diaspora USA/Southeast region will have its conference in Orlando, Florida, and after looking at the proposed/suggested agenda, printed in one of the community periodicals, it dawned on me that something is amiss. Nowhere on the agenda, spread over three days, Friday thru’ Sunday, is there any mention of general meeting and election. The fact of the matter is that election is due, if I remember clearly the stipulation outlined in the first policy document. I referenced the first policy document because it is my understanding that the government is considering a new policy document to inform the Diaspora. I have noted in this forum, many time over, absence or lack or … Read entire article »

AUBREY CAMPBELL’S COMMENTARY: SIGNS OF THE TIMES!

Good day folks and all praise to our maker for another day, another week.  What a weekend it was! Sport, politics or other, the events and the headlines were hard to miss. At the Copa America Centenario soccer tournament being played out across the United States, Jamaica and Haiti got played and were sent home for their below ‘parformance’ (sic), even as some of the big teams struggled. Put it this way. They tried, giving it their best shot, literally and especially for Haiti, which scored a historic goal against Brazil. Jamaica had a chance at revenge and redemption against Mexico, but for some unexplained reason, the coach left the real ‘shottas’ in Kingston! Now, I don’t know if there will ever be a ‘next time’. Initial reports are that the Grand Prix athletics meeting … Read entire article »
