The board comprises: Lenford Salmon, chairman; Gussie Clarke, deputy chairman; Councillor Duane Smith; Kingsley Cooper; Clifton “Specialists” Dillon; Dr Carlene Davis-Cowan; Dr Sonjah Stanley-Niah; Paula Surtees; Bunny Brown; Howard McIntosh; Herbie Miller; Clyde McKenzie; Michael “Ibo” Cooper; Joseph Bogdanovich; Karen Smith; Jacqueline Knight-Campbell; Shelly-Ann Curran; and Kamal Bankay. ARTISTS AND PRODUCERS GOT MORE $ FOR THEIR WORKS IN 2015, ACCORDING TO REPORT FROM JACAP!

Beenie Man and D’Angel—- Entertainers, music producers and other members in the creative arts took home more money as a result of their creative works last year. The 3,479 members of the Jamaica Association of Composers, Authors and Publishers (JACAP) received $39 million in royalty payment in 2015 from the association. This is a noticeable improvement on 2014 when $12.7 million was paid out to members. At that time, the membership stood at 3,397. JACAP also saw an improvement in the amount of royalties it collected from overseas sources. In 2015, the association collected $14.1 million, an increase of $7.3 million, relative to 2014. JACAP was established in March 1998 to oversee the collective administration of music copyright in Jamaica, and administer rights on behalf of songwriters, composers and publishers. VETERAN SOUND ENGINEER DELROY “SPIDER” THOMPSON DIES AT 63!

Veteran sound engineer Delroy Thompson— VETERAN sound engineer Delroy Thompson (aka Spider) died Wednesday morning at age 63. According to Sabrina Edwards, a relative, he died at the Annotto Bay Hospital in St Mary of complications from a heart attack and stroke. In a Facebook post, music producer Gussie Clarke said Thompson was ‘the master of mastering and his experience is irreplaceable and invaluable’. Thompson was employed to Clarke’s Anchor recording studio since 2009. He had previously worked at Dynamic Sounds and Tuff Gong in Kingston. During his long career, Thompson worked with countless brand artists led by Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Burning Spear, Dennis Brown and Alton Ellis. RECORD PRODUCERS DONOVAN GERMAIN, AUGUSTUS “GUSSIE” CLARKE AND AUTHOR ANTHONY WINKLER TO RECEIVE MUSGRAVE AWARDS!

The Institute of Jamaica (IOJ), which presents the annual awards, announced its list of nine awardees yesterday. The ceremony takes place October 22 in the IOJ’s Lecture Hall. Winkler, author of books such as The Lunatic and The Painted Canoe, will receive a gold medal for his contribution to literature. Germain, head of Penthouse Records, earns a silver medal for his contribution to music while Clarke, who began producing music over 40 years ago while attending Kingston College, will receive a bronze medal for similar contribution. According to JACAP director, Augustus ‘Gussie’ Clarke, the organisation plans to turn up the heat against media houses. “Many media entities owe millions of dollars for copyright fees to JACAP members and we have been trying for years to get them to pay up,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
