BARRINGTON LEVY TO DROP NEW SINGLE “GREAT SURVIVOR OF ALL TIME” (GSOAT) MARCH 10!

 Barrington Levy.— Reggae singer Barrington Levy is promoting his latest single GSOAT (Great Survivor of All Time). The track is a collaborative effort among Levy’s Black Roses Label, Platinum Camp Records and Controlled Substance Sound Lab, and is expected in stores on March 10. According to Levy, GSOAT is about what it means to be unrelenting in the face of adversity. “We all have faced some difficult times in our lives. This song is for those people who have not crumbled under defeat; this song celebrates those who have the strength to carry on and be strong,” he said. VP RECORDS TO CELEBRATE GREENSLEEVES RECORDS’ 40th ANNIVERSARY WITH NEW RELEASES!

BY HOWARD CAMPBELL—  Top: Barrington Levy Bottom: Dr Alimantado Greensleeves Records, the British company largely credited with introducing dancehall music to a wide audience in the United Kingdom, will have a revival in 2017. Chris Chin, president of VP Records, the company that owns the Greensleeves catalog, told the Jamaica Observer that, “We are celebrating the 40th anniversary of Greensleeves Records with extensive marketing and new releases.” VP bought Greensleeves in 2008. The latter was actually founded in 1975 by Englishmen Chris Sedgwick and Chris Cracknell. The Greensleeves roster is an impressive collection of late 1970’s roots-reggae, 1980’s dancehall and mega sellers from the 1990’s. Chin, who was awarded the Order of Distinction two weeks ago by the Jamaican Government, cites the Greensleeves acquisition as a highlight of his VP presidency. SINGER BARRINGTON LEVY SAYS HE IS READY FOR REGGAE SUMFEST, JULY 23!

   Barrington Levy— IN a 37-year career, Barrington Levy has headlined many a show. The latest will be Reggae Sumfest on July 23, at Catherine Hall Entertainment Complex in Montego Bay. Nominated this year for a Best Reggae Album Grammy for Acousticalevy, he returns to Sumfest after a three-year break. “God bless my fans, on the night of the show, you will see what happens. Nominees are The Cure by Jah Cure (VP Records); Branches of The Same Tree by Rocky Dawuni (Cumbancha Records); Acousticalevy by Barrington Levy (Doctor Dread Presents); Zion Awake by Luciano (VP Records); and Strictly Roots by Morgan Heritage (CTBC Music Group). Industry insiders predict Jah Cure or Barrington Levy could take home the prize.  The Cure is the first nomination for Jah Cure. THE 14th ANNUAL GRACE JAMAICAN JERK FESTIVAL DELIVERED!

 AJ Brown— PROMOTERS of the annual Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival — held at Markham Park, Sunrise in Florida on Sunday — delivered on their promise of a diverse entertainment offering. There was something for everyone on the various stages throughout the venue: the Fusion Sound Stage; the Western Union Cultural Stage; the Hot Zone; and, of course, the main performance stage. Sheldon Shepherd, actor and member of No-Maddz, read from his recently released book titled In the Morning Yah. He received a good reception from the audience.
