MORE ARTISTS AND LABELS ARE GOING FOR STREAMING!

By Joel Goldenberg—  Bob Marley’s early output is now available for streaming.—  When legal music streaming began via sites like Rdio, Spotify and others, the music one could listen to was wide, plentiful and varied, but with limits. The prime limit was The Beatles, the one group that preferred to keep their releases restricted to CDs, DVDs and now Blu-rays. They later let down their guard a bit by allowing Apple Computers’  ITunes to make their catalogue available for downloading at a cost per track or album. The only Beatles tracks available for streaming have been interviews and material recorded in 1963 or before, as per Europe’s rule that songs enter the public domain after 50 years — the group has no control over these, at least, so far. The streaming material includes regular … Read entire article »

THE ALBUM “BOB MARLEY AND THE WAILERS LIVE!” CELEBRATING 40 YEARS!

BY JAMES ROSE—  Musical acts don’t generally make their name on a live album. Usually the act is well-established and the live set comes out to feed the beast; capitalise on momentum built in the studio, and/or to give the artist time in rehab.   But in the mid-1970s, the concept of the live album wasn’t that old, and so, as the music world began to seek out forms of music that relied heavily on the atmosphere at the moment of its delivery, the live album seemed perfect. Few artists came to life on stage more than Bob Marley. When he turned up at the Lyceum in London in June 1975, and someone turned on the mics to lay down Live! (released in December, 1975), not only was reggae born as a landmark pop music genre, … Read entire article »

According to the website www.chronicle.co.zw, Marley will be bestowed a Lifetime Achievement Award. ZIMA Chairman Joseph Nyadzayo said the award is in tribute to Marley, years after he performed at the flag-raising ceremony in 1980. “We’re honoring him for giving the de facto anthem and for leading the reggae music revolution in our free nation which as influenced important music types such as our own Zimdancehall phenomenon,” he was quoted as saying. Marley penned the single Zimbabwe, taken from his 1979 album Survival, in support of the country’s (then Rhodesia) independence. “As the Marley family comes to Zimbabwe, we hope … Read entire article »

THE MARLEY FAMILY AGREES TO DNA COMPARISON FOR FABIAN MARLEY!

By Paul Henry—-  FABIAN MARLEY… I’m not going to match up DNA with any of the siblings. THE family of Bob Marley is to make children of the late reggae icon available to compare DNA samples with that of singer Fabian Marley, who has been claiming publicly for the past two years to have been sired by the world-renowned artist. However, the arrangement doesn’t sit well with Fabian Marley, who is irked by the Marley family’s position that his DNA would not be compared with that of the man he has claimed to be his father. On November 4, Marley family attorney Kevin Powell, a partner in the law firm Hylton Powell, responded to a letter from Keachea Dixon, the attorney for Fabian Marley, on the controversial issue. “…we will make available one or more … Read entire article »

Fifty-Six Hope Road Music sued rivals A.V.E.L.A. and others in 2008, arguing that their sales of Marley merchandise violated federal trademark law.
