NEW YORK’S IRIE JAM RADIO JOINS THE CUMULUS MEDIA NETWORK GROUP!

 Bobby Clarke— FIVE months after becoming the giant Cumulus Media Network Group’s (CMNG) “reggae and Caribbean arm”, the head of Irie Jam Radio says the partnership has given the Queens, New York station a greater opportunity to expose West Indian culture to a broader audience. The Irie Jam Show, co-hosted by Dubmaster Chris and DJ Ron, airs Sundays from 8:00 pm to midnight on Radio 103.9, one of the hundreds of radio stations under the CMNG banner. Clarke, a Kingstonian who started Irie Jam 22 years ago, told Splash that the CMNG deal has helped the station move beyond its hardcore Caribbean base. “We’re now heard in different markets which gives us a bigger voice and platform. The event is slated for Sunrise Multiplex Cinemas in Valley Stream, Queens, New York. Bobby Clarke, CEO of Irie Jam — promoters of the New York premiere, said an additional theatre is also reserved at the same venue. “Tickets for 240 seats are being sold at the venue only” said Clarke. Filmed entirely in New York City last year, Jamaican Mafia is directed by Vafamba Donzo and stars Paul Campbell, whose credits include Dancehall Queen and Third World Cop. THE NEW YORK PREMIERE OF THE MOVIE “JAMAICAN MAFIA” IS CANCELLED AROUND CONTROVERSY!

The sold out Jamaican Mafia movie premiere that was supposed to be held last night at the Sunrise Multiplex Cinemas, Valley Stream in New York never happened. Promoters Irie Jam, Thursday morning, are in a quandary about what actually caused the cancellation of the premiere. “We are deeply sorry for what transpired last night but the decision to cancel the event was out of our control” said Bobby Clarke, CEO Irie Jam radio, 93.5 FM. Irie Jam assisted the production company, Donzo Productions, with the radio promotions of the event. TV’S “DANCEHALL’S GOT TALENT” COMES TO NEW YORK CITY!

It will be broadcast on OmniPresent Media and OPM Digital Network. The show’s publicist, Malaika Lepine, says its objective is to expose new talent. “It gives opportunities for upcoming talent to really showcase and represent their culture in a way all reggae and dancehall music lovers can enjoy.” The 18-episode series will be hosted by Nicole ‘Nikki Z’ Duhaney. There are three judges: singer Ed Robinson, Irie Jam Radio’s DJ Roy and fashion personality Dougie Platinum. Fast-forward to today and promoters are creatively tackling this problem. Irie Jamboree’s Bobby Clarke felt the brunt of the upheaval in 2010 when the visas of Bounty Killer, Mavado, Beenie Man, Aidonia and selector Ricky Trooper were revoked. That, along with the recession that was already affecting the United States, forced him to cancel Irie Jamboree. The event did not return until last year. “The recession is not as bad as before.
