MUSICOLOGIST BUNNY GOODISON MOVES HIS POPULAR “RHYTHMS” FROM KINGSTON’S HOT 102 FM!

By Howard Campbell– GOODISON… never had the inspiration to work there anymore— AFTER 16 years at the Hot 102 FM radio station, broadcaster/musicologist Bunny Goodison and his popular Rhythms programme have moved on. Goodison told the Sunday Observer that he left the station last month, citing “a number of issues” for his reason to leave. He declined to give details for his departure. “All I can say is that I never had the inspiration to work there anymore. The enthusiasm just wasn’t there,” he said. Goodison hosted Rhythms in the 5:00-9:00 pm slot on Sundays. Its ska, rocksteady and classic Rhythm and blues format catered to a mature audience. BUNNY GOODISON’S SOUL SHACK SOUND SYSTEM TURNS 50!

 By Howard Campbell— Bunny Goodison poses beside the original turntable of his sound system Soul Shack—- A VINTAGE stereo stands out among the numerous plaques and photographs that line the walls of the entertainment area at musicologist Vaughn ‘Bunny’ Goodison’s St Andrew home. The aged turntable is no simple memento. Along with four 12-inch speaker boxes, it marked the debut of Goodison’s sound system, Soul Shack, at Emmet Park in the summer of 1964. The venue, located at Goodison’s alma mater St George’s College in central Kingston, was appropriate. He reckons about 800 patrons (mainly past students) showed up that night, rocking to American soul and local ska music.
