ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE RATES DRUMMER CARLTON BARRETT NO.27 ON BEST 100 LIST!

 Drummer Carlton ‘Carlie’ Barrett— THE Wailers’ Carlton Barrett, who perfected the One Drop beat during the 1970’s, is number 29 on Rolling Stone Magazine’s Top 100 Drummers. The list appears in the publication’s latest issue. Sly Dunbar, who came to prominence as a session musician during that period, is ranked at 65. Rolling Stone’s writers saluted Barrett’s unique style. “Nothing sounds more certifiably reggae than Carlton ‘Carlie’ Barrett’s tumbling tom-toms followed by the high, whip-cracking snare that launched a thousand tracks. CHEATING WIFE FREED OF MURDER OF MUSICIAN CARLTON BARRETT OF BOB MARLEY & THE WAILERS FAME!

By Sybil E Hibbert—-  ALBERTINE Barrett, widow of Carlton Barrett, a former drummer in Bob Marley’s Wailers Band, was on October 18, 1991, jailed for seven years along with the two men charged with her for conspiracy to murder her husband. Carlton Barrett was a well-known musician on the dancehall circuit at the time of his death. He was gunned down at his gate at 12 Bridgemount Park Avenue, Kingston 8 about 9:30 pm on April 17, 1987. The late Justice Ellis (retired senior puisne judge) in passing the seven-year prison term on Barrett and the other two accused, remarked at the time that the case raised the frightening spectre of contract murder.
