MINISTER MARION HALL FOR REBEL SALUTE, JANUARY 14!

BY RICHARD JOHNSON—  Minister Marion Hall— MINISTER Marion Hall, formerly Lady Saw, will make her Jamaican debut as a gospel act on January 14 — the final night of Rebel Salute at Richmond Estate in St Ann. Promoter Tony Rebel made the announcement during the event’s launch at Jamaica Pegasus hotel in St Andrew on Monday. Hall will headline the event which features more than 50 local and international acts over two days. This is the first time she will be performing locally since she got baptised one year ago. VETERAN SINGER/SONGWRITER ERNIE SMITH, IS GRATEFUL FOR HIS JaRIA AWARD!

BY RICHARD JOHNSON—  Ernie Smith— FOR a second year, singer and songwriter Ernie Smith is being recognized by the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA) at their honor awards. And, like last year, he’ll be unable to attend. Smith, 71, is being lauded for his exceptional contribution as a songwriter. The ceremony is slated for the Courtleigh Auditorium in New Kingston on Saturday, February 28. “I was like oh man! It’s the second time and I can’t make the show. RAPPER PITBULL, BITES INTO THE DANCEHALL CLASSIC “MURDER SHE WROTE!”

 Pitbull— Cuban-American rapper Pitbull recently released a Spanish cover of the Chaka Demus & Pliers hit song Murder She Wrote. Titled El Taxi, it is from Dale, his ninth album. Dale is nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album category. It was released in July last year by RCA Records/Sony Music Latin and went to number one on Billboard’s Top Latin Album Chart. El Taxi also features Latin artistes Sensato and Osmani Garcia. Produced by the Taxi Gang, Murder She Wrote was released in 1992 and topped Jamaican charts the following year. In 1994, it reached number 27 on the UK Pop Singles Chart.
